Milo Benjamin Mylott and his parents called Whitehall their home but lived aboard a canal boat that sailed along the Champlain Canal, Hudson River and River Richelieu - probably from Whitehall to Brooklyn and occasionally to Montréal a good part of the year. Most likely Milo Benjamin, his brothers and sister were on the canal boat berthed in the Atlantic Boat Basin on January1st, 1891 when his mother, Addie Mylott, died.
And it was not unusual for a canal boy to marry a young lady who was also raised on canal boats. That is exactly what Benjamin Mylott did when he married Edith Lida Glode of Waterford, NY on January 10th, 1910 - 101 years ago. Edith's parents, William Alexander Glode and Angeline Allard, where a canaling family originally from Champlain NY on the Chazy River and Lake Champlain.
